Meet Kristen

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) having received my initial licensing (LSW) in 2010. I graduated with a master's degree from New York University’s Silver School of Social Work, where I focused my training on grief, trauma, and crisis intervention. I was fortunate to be selected to complete part of my training in Costa Rica, as part of a global learning opportunity, immersed in the culture and social issues of Central America. I have worked with families and children for the last 15 years in both the educational and mental health settings.

The Philosophy behind Coral Consulting and Therapy Services:

A Coral Reef is a representation of the family unit, it is a fragile ecosystem consisting of many components and organisms that rely on each other for survival. Each coral reef is distinctive due to a unique set of conditions that shape the reef. My goal is to provide tools, resources and support to protect the reef from the underlying currents and the depletion of resources. I am always mindful and respectful in the care of this unique ecosystem, with the goal of helping to create a healthy reef, where all can flourish.

Therapeutic Approach and Modalities

My underlying goal is to use strength-based practice to promote positive social interactions, increase emotional well-being, and create opportunities for success in a multitude of settings. To enhance and promote client success, I use techniques from a variety of modalities, leading to positive outcomes and enhancing my clients’ personal coping mechanisms to manage life stressors. I specialize in working with young children and adolescents through the use of regulation techniques, identifying emotions, verbalization of thoughts and feelings, and developing a toolkit of skills and techniques for managing big emotions. Techniques utilized include:

  • Mindfulness, calming techniques, and self-regulation
  • Strength-Based Model
  • Family Systems
